Zu trocken, zu technisch, nicht prestigeträchtig: Wie kann die Berichterstattung über den Klimawandel dem Thema Exklusivität einhauchen?
Journalisten und die neuen Medien spielen eine entscheidende Rolle, wenn es darum geht, das Bewusstsein für die Bedrohung der Umwelt und ihre Auswirkungen auf die allgemeinen Lebensbedingungen zu stärken. Sie können in Beiträgen zur globalen Erwärmung oder zur Wüstenbildung die Meinungsbildung beeinflussen. Eine ähnlich wichtige Rolle haben sie, wenn es um den Erhalt der Regenwälder oder den Kampf gegen den unverantwortlichen Umgang mit Giftstoffen geht.
Die Entwicklungsländer sind am stärksten vom Klimawandel betroffen. Lokale Medien begegnen dieser Herausforderung nicht nur, indem sie darüber berichten, sondern indem sie ihren Lesern, Zuhörern und Zuschauern die dringendsten Umweltbelange auf verständliche und interessante Weise präsentieren.
Dieser Workshop vermittelt Einblicke in die mediale Berichterstattung in Entwicklungsländern und zeigt, wie lokale Anlässe dazu beitragen, ein vielschichtiges Bild der fortlaufenden Klimadebatte zu zeichnen, das alle Facetten und Stimmen deutlich macht.
Journalists and the news media play a decisive role in creating awareness of threats to the environment and its effects on the material conditions of life.
They can help to change people’s attitudes and thus counteract global warming or desertification. They have an equally important role to play in the combat to preserve the world’s rain forests as in the battle against the irresponsible dumping of toxic waste.
Developing countries are the most affected by climate change. Local media face the challenge not only to report on it but to present the most common and urgent environmental issues to their audiences in understandable and interesting ways.
This workshop will give insight into the media coverage in developing countries, exploring ways to find local hooks and angles to draw a colorful picture of the ongoing climate debate which comprises a broad facet of voices.
